As co-chair for the Diversity Resource Group PRIDE (People Respecting Individual Diversities in Everyone), I lead a team of 15 cast members from around the Disneyland Resort in LGBT- and Ally- related projects focused on our workforce, workplace and marketplace. These projects range from organizing cast member volunteer opportunities within our community, to working with our internal business partners to develop products relevant to our LGBT demographic.
The Long Beach Pride Parade is a great example of where PRIDE’s core focuses come together in one project. Our cast members get to engage with the Southern California community, and work with a nonprofit organization that has promoted an inclusive environment for 34 years. The planning process takes roughly six months, starting with the creation of project teams. The past few years we’ve partnered with the Disneyland Resort Entertainment team – who, lets be honest – know how to put on a parade! Cast members from all around the Disneyland Resort participate with their families and friends – this year we had more than 200 people walking together.
Being a part of this team is such a great experience, and I love to see the cast members and community so engaged in inclusion. It is fun to watch new members come in, pick up new projects and run with them. I have led this team for two years now, and I know we will continue to see great things out of our Diversity Resource Groups. I look forward to passing that torch on to the next leader and knowing the passion will continue.
