Working for the Disneyland Resort, I believe we have a responsibility to be involved in the community. My role on the Cal Poly Experience Industry Management Advisory Council is to help provide real-world, hospitality-driven insight and feedback on the Experience Industry Management program at Cal Poly. Their motto, “Learn By Doing,” has been a tremendous key to their success. It is our responsibility to hold them accountable to delivering on that motto as they plan future curriculum.
I really enjoy the interaction we get with the students, and helping influence future hospitality leaders. There are selected student representative positions on the Council that will share their experiences at Cal Poly, allowing them to showcase the “Learn By Doing” motto in real world scenarios. Each spring, the students produce a fundraiser and it is amazing to see the quality and caliber of the student production.
My background is in the hospitality industry as I have been with Disney for 20 years and previously with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company for five years. My involvement with the Advisory Council allows me to share what I have learned and give real-world insight to help shape tomorrow’s leaders.
