Every year, the Disneyland Resort hosts a silent auction for cast members to support the annual CHOC Walk in the Park. This is my 16th year helping to assemble and wrap the auction baskets, which have raised about $160,000 for Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). This year, we auctioned off 220 creatively wrapped gift baskets, raising more than $28,000!
Although the auction is only two days, preparation begins several months in advance including sourcing the items from around the resort. One of my favorite parts is distributing the baskets to the winners, as many have stories about why they participated or why they wanted a particular basket. CHOC has positively impacted many cast members and purchasing a basket is their way of giving back.
I originally got involved because of what CHOC did for my own family. I was amazed by the love and support from the CHOC staff when two of my nephews had surgeries as young children. Their patience and care is what gets families through difficult times!
