Last summer, the Disneyland Resort asked Anaheim residents to vote for the location of their next Disney-sponsored KaBOOM! playground, and after an overwhelming number of votes came in, the Resort pledged to build new playgrounds at five Anaheim parks. The first of the five was built last month at Imperial Park.
More than 200 volunteers from Anaheim, KaBOOM!, Girl Scouts of Orange County and the Disneyland Resort constructed the playground in under eight hours, after removing the existing, outdated playground. In the next few years, Willow Park, Julianna Park, Pearson Park and Barton Park will each get new playgrounds, bringing the total to 12 and giving more than 19,000 Anaheim children a place to play.
“A key ingredient in healthy communities is park playgrounds,” said Brent Dennis, Anaheim’s community services director. “This collaborative partnership celebrates the spirit of kindness and community. Here’s to many years of great fun and healthy recreation within Imperial Park.”
