In Southern California, we enjoy seemingly endless days of beautiful weather that many of us take advantage of by getting outside and exploring nature. While those sunny days are perfect for adventures in the great outdoors, our Mediterranean climate means less rainfall than other parts of the country.
At the Disneyland Resort, we are always looking for new ways to conserve water and our Horticulture team is an important part of this effort. Horticulture cast members design landscapes – with the help of Walt Disney Imagineering – that not only fit the theme of the area they will be planted in, but also include water-savvy plants. These plants have leaves that are small, waxy, thick, silvery or hairy to minimize water loss. Additionally, these leaves are wide or deeply rooted to maximize water uptake.
