Since its inception in 1997, nearly $2.2 million has been donated to local nonprofits through the Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund (DVCF). DVCF is funded entirely by cast members through regular payroll deductions or one-time donations. Those who contribute during the year have the opportunity to nominate an organization of their choice for a grant of up to $5,000. This year, cast members donated more than $415,000 to 85 Southern California nonprofit organizations.
Many cast members play an active role within the organizations they select. Christine Ludin, lodging programs coordinator for Disneyland Resort hotels, nominated Southern California Special Olympics based on her family’s involvement with the organization. “I’m very thankful that the Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund has given me this opportunity,” said Ludin. “This donation means so much to me and I’m thrilled to be giving these funds to Southern California Special Olympics.”
The American Heart Association, California Youth Services, Canine Angels Service Team and San Dimas Mountain Rescue are among the organizations that received a 2014 grant.
