In response to the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, The Walt Disney Company made a $2 million cash commitment to support hurricane relief and rebuilding efforts – $1 million to the American Red Cross for immediate, critical assistance, and another $1 million to organizations working on rebuilding efforts. In addition, ABC encouraged viewers to donate to the American Red Cross during its “Day of Giving” telethon, raising more than $16 million for those affected by the storm.
“With the help of our generous partners, the Red Cross can deliver relief to individuals and families in need,” said Gail McGovern, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “Our response to Sandy is large and costly, and their help is critical to ensure residents have a warm shelter to go to and hot meals to eat during this difficult time.“
