Over the past few months, 368 students from several nonprofit youth organizations in Orange County had the opportunity to participate in hands-on learning experiences at the Disneyland Resort through the Youth Education Series (Y.E.S.) program.
Y.E.S offers guided field studies in applied sciences, environmental studies, liberal arts and leadership development. These courses, such as “Property of Motion Physics,” “Exploring the Golden State,” and “Disney’s Approach to Leadership” allow students to explore the parks, while facilitators teach teamwork, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The Disneyland Resort sponsored nine organizations, including Orange County Children’s Therapeutic Art Center and Vital Link. The nonprofits were matched with Y.E.S. programs that align with their mission. For instance, Vital Link focuses on science, technology, engineering and math career development, and those students learned the role of physics at the parks through the “Properties of Motion Physics”course.
