The Disneyland Resort hosted SIGNin’ in the Street at Downtown Disney last month, a first-of-its-kind event at any Disney property celebrating creativity in the deaf community. The event, which underscores Disney’s commitment to diversity, provided guests the opportunity to learn more about deaf culture through performances, workshops, screenings and celebrity presentations. Appearances by the stars of ABC Family’s hit series “Switched at Birth” rounded out the weekend, which drew thousands to experience the talent of both deaf and hearing artists alike.
“This event is really wonderful for the deaf community,” said Howard Rosenblum, CEO of the National Association of the Deaf. “Rarely is there an event like this where they can highlight the talents and abilities of deaf actors, deaf writers, deaf role models and what deaf people can do.”
